Education Ireland
|
|
The third level education system in Ireland is broad in scope and encompasses
the university sector, institutes of technology, the colleges of education and
private, independent colleges. The first three groupings which comprise 34 institutions
are autonomous and self-governing, but are substantially state funded.
Entry to third level education for overseas students is determined individually by each institution and are generally based
on national examination performance and English Language aptitude.
The quality of Irish education awards is fully recognised globally. All Irish awards are included in the national
framework of qualifications maintained by the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland.
How To Apply
It is advised to begin the application process at least one year in advance of the proposed arrival date in Ireland.
Almost all educational institutes accept direct applications from foreign students. Students should apply directly to
the institution of their choice. [top]

Accreditation of Third Level Courses
It is in the interest of every student and education agent to verify the accreditation of the institute and course that you are interested in.
The Higher Education Authority is the statutory planning and development body for higher education and research in Ireland.
The HEA has wide advisory powers throughout the whole of the third-level education sector. A list of approved Irish Third Level
Institutes can be viewed at the website of the Higher Education Authority. The College you
have chosen will provide you with written confirmation of their approved status and that of the course you have chosen.
Courses that are eligible to apply for a student visa application
Study visa applications will be accepted only for courses that are listed on the "internationalization register" on the website www.education.ie.
Cost of Living
The main costs that students can expect to incur while in Ireland include fees, accommodation and living expenses.
These vary considerably depending on the course, the institution and the lifestyle of the student. Costs do not remain
static, so it is important to double check fees with the institution of your choice and ask their advice on other
living costs. For regularly updated figures please visit Education Ireland. [top]
